The Montaulbain Hotel is part of the history and heritage of Verdun. Leaning against the old rampart of Castrum, it was originally the mansion of Simon du Châtel, bought in 1388 by the magistrates of the city, to make it the municipal house housing the municipal bell.

At that time, the cellars served as a municipal prison ... In 1680, Louis XIV installed the first French master alderman in the hotel. In 1738, the municipality abandons this hotel to settle at the current town hall.
